Thalassery was known as Telissery during British rule. The place is in Kannur, India. It acted as a British settlement and thrived into a famous commercial centre. Pepper and cardamom trade was conducted here. The city went down in history as a renowned heritage town and is thus, a much-recommended place to visit when you are visiting Kerala<\/a>. The belief is that the town’s people started playing cricket in the early 1800s after Col. Arthur Wellesley introduced the sport here. The people here used to play cricket much before Calcuttaa in 1860.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thelassery, also known as Tellicherry Fort, acted as the chief military centre during British rule. With its spectacular secret tunnels, the magnificent fort, intrinsically carved doors and massive walls were built in 1708 AD to commemorate the East India Company, which was an integral part of the British regime. This is one of the major attractions of Thalassery<\/p>\n\n\n\n

St. John\u2019s Anglican Church<\/strong> <\/h3>\n\n\n

Overbury\u2019s Folly<\/strong> <\/h3>\n\n\n

With its curious name, Overbury\u2019s Folly functions as an amusement park now. The initial concept was to build a picnic spot here. The idea belonged to E N Overbury, who dreamed of building the picnic spot. The park is now named after him. It is thus a good place to hang out in the evenings overlooking the Arabian Sea. This should not be missed at Thalassery<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jagannath Temple<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n

It is a temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, consecrated by Sree Narayana Guru in 1908 to help people of the lower castes pray to their lord. Hence, the rituals are performed by non-Brahmins of Thalassery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mariamman Kovil<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

This temple is dedicated to Goddess Parvathi and the deity in the temple is believed to have formed on its own. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Muzhappilangad Beach at Thalassery<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n

How to Reach Thalassery<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Thalassery is well connected by rail and road. If you are taking the train, get a direct one to Thalassery, and you can easily explore the city. If you are flying, then you can book a flight to Kozhikode, which is about 94 kilometers from Thalassery. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
