Vembanad Lake

Coir weaving in Alleppey

Coir weaving is an essential industry in Alleppey. The womenfolk and weaving wheels work intimately to fabricate one of the strongest threads in the world- coir, the golden lines of Kerala. For the people who are living by the side of the backwaters, coir weaving is their primary occupation. The process first requires extracting the coconut fibre from the coconut husks, and then it is further processed and woven into mats and other products. Kuttanad

Ambalapuzha Sreekrishna Temple

Ambalapuzha Sree Krishna Temple is a Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Krishna also called ‘Dwarka of the South’. Built-in the traditional Kerala style architectural pattern, the temple is famous for its delicious rice pudding prepared in sweet milk, popularly known as Pal Payasam. The main deity presiding the temple called Parthasarathy is carved out of black granite stone and carries the sacred conch (shankh) in the left hand and a whip in the right. It is one of the most visited pilgrim centres of Kerala.

Ravi Karunakaran was the architect of the modernized coir industry of Kerala.  It is a privately-owned museum and one of the largest of its kind, holding large Swarovski crystals in jade, ivory, porcelain; sculptures, Belgian glassworks, Murano glassworks and Tanjore paintings etc. This museum is featured unique artistic pieces from across the world.
